As long as I use it in landscape mode, this fits my MS Surface model 1796, which is 7.9" wide by 11.5" high. This is not designed to handle serious abuse, but should last well enough if treated with a little care. It holds my Surface about 8.5" above the desktop (desktop to bottom of tablet) which is good for my needs. It's still new, but seems likely to be able to support the weight of the tablet (1.7 pounds) without drooping over time. I don't have a cover on the tablet. The tablet holder has a secure grip on the Surface. Both the top grips and the bottom grips are adjustable, although you have to push the button on the back of the tablet holder to move the top grip. Assembly is easy but not perfectly clear from the instructions. They were obviously not written by a native English speaker. When attaching the tablet holder to the ball end of the support arm, there is a threaded ring that must be screwed onto the holder to keep the ball in place and adjust the tension on the ball. Once you remove the ring from the holder, the threads don't want to line up to screw it back on. The ring is plastic (feels like resin) and screwing it on without lining up the threads perfectly would likely strip it. After about 20 minutes of fussing with it, I finally got it lined up, at which point it screwed on easily. More irritating, the upper arm has a joint where it meets the lower arm. The joint allows the upper arm to be positioned higher or lower and has a hex key screw in it that can be tightened to increase the amount of tension in the joint to ensure it holds your tablet up. On my unit, the screw is so tight that I cannot loosen it. I've tried and only succeeded in stripping the screw head. Fortunately, the unit is at a height that works for me, so I don't need to adjust it at this point. I'm pretty sure it's not going to come loose in the future. The mounting clamp has a significant range of adjustment and should fit the thickness of most tables and desktops. There is also a Grommet mount that can replace the clamp. This allows you to mount the arm to the desk using the grommet that many desks have to allow cables to pass from beneath the desk to items on the surface of the desk. If given the option, I think the grommet mount might be preferable. Mine is mounted using the clamp and seems fairly sturdy, although there is probably a quarter-inch of play in the tablet. This doesn't keep it from being very usable. All in all, the CTA PAD-TAM isn't an exceptional value for the money, but you are getting what you pay for. It seems to me to be the tablet holder with the best chance of doing the job I needed at this price point.I was looking for something to hold my Samsung Galaxy Tab A SM-T580 while reading my Kindle books. I was contemplating getting one of those pillow holders, but while I was looking at those, I came across this sort of device.I looked at all of the items and I decided to try this one. Just as I was about to make the purchase, I noticed a half off price if I bought an Amazon Warehouse item. From what I can tell, it was just a damaged box. All of the parts I needed were included in sealed pouches. Very good! The installation instructions are really just pictures. I basically figured out how to build it without the pictures. There are two types of installations. One is a clamp version and the second is for drilling a hole in desk or table. I chose to use the clamp since I did not want to damage my table and it makes it convenient to move. The stand is very sturdy, easily allows you to hide the charger cable, and holds my tablet in any direction I want. It is very easy to operate, whereby I can just push it off to the side when I'm not using it and pulling it towards me after sitting down. Another person mentioned that it makes it easy to use for a quick search while sitting in the Livingroom. I agree, it is always on, and always instantly available. And, you don't have to hold the tab or lay it uncomfortably on your lap.Very satisfied, worth $30 no problem, and I'm even happier to get it at 1/2 that price as a Warehouse Deal! Thank-You Amazon! This arm is great. It has a really wide range of motion, and goes into pretty much any angle. As. an artist who needs to have reference available at any moment while not interrupting my flow, this arm is great. If I had one criticism, it would be that the tablet isn't fully stable when I tap the screen for anything. It bounces, and I have to stabilize it with my hand so it stops bouncing, as it takes a long time to stop. A minor inconvenience. This arm was exactly what I was looking for to hold my Lenovo Yoga. It fit well and could handle the weight. However, after a couple of months, the tightening screw for the swivel holder (not sure what you call it) stripped out and now the laptop won't stay up. And trust me when I say I did not over tighten the screw. I was very careful to keep from doing that. But it still stripped out. This is actually the second one I've purchased and the same thing happened to the other one except it was one of the screws to on of the arms that stripped out. I thought I might have just gotten a "lemon" so I took a chance and purchased another one. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. These just seem to not have good quality when it comes to the screws and screw holes. Otherwise, this is a great product at a great price. But if it doesn't last more than a few months, then it's not worth it.CTA has a new model as the picture depicts on Amazon and CTA but there is an old model that many people have pointed out.I received the old model and not the one depicted in the picture, unfortunately I now have 3 of these. Many reviewers have pointed out that the arm and the tension with the mini aluminum bolt is weak, that is true and what makes it worse is the combination of using Teflon tapered washers that makes the arm easily fall down. I got it on same day shipping and that was nice. The maximum arm reach is 18", parts are solid quality. The reach from the clamp to mid screen is about 15” or 38 cm. Works good for my application. I had an issue with squeaking when i swung the arm, after 2.5 months use. I dissembled the base & lubricated all the contact parts with Jigaloo (a silicone spray) & it swings with even better ease than new. Be careful where the parts go when you disassemble. I mixed up the screws & it took me 3 tries to get it right (uses same size torx bit but different shaped heads & lengths) It is now 11 months later. The knob at the back no longer holds the Ipad tight & it wants to sag to an unusable angle. I wired it up in the portrait position, so can no longer switched to picture position. Still functional but not versatileYa he comprado anteriormente otro producto CTA. siempre tienen un talón de Aquiles. For the money, it’s fairly robust, unfortunately not where it needs to be.The articulating arm just isn’t strong enough. It ‘droops’ very quickly, even when supporting something lightweight (iPad mini). And while the clamp At the end of the arm will grasp a larger tablet, the arm itself will definitely not support any larger tablets at all (I.e. a Microsoft Surface). The problem is the tightening mechanisms for the ‘joints’ in the articulating arm cannot be tightened firmly enough. Probably needs to be twice as sturdy to be effective for the purpose that it was intended for. I’d be fine paying twice as much for it too, if it were twice as strong.
